Madison 56-ers - FCGB U15 GO (0-7)
The U15s traveled south on Saturday, and on a pleasant sunny day in the state capital they put on a show for the host 56ers. In less than 30 seconds Aubrey S. had given the visitors the lead with what she now knows was a long curving shot. Definitely not a cross that went in the goal by mistake. 90 seconds later Gabbie P. beat the GK to the far lower corner and before the fans were even seated it was 2-0. Marissa E. added a third, and Aubrey S. a fourth while Katie M. saved a PK attempt from the hosts in red to keep the score 4-0 at intermission. The second half brought many changes in the lineup, but the results were the same. Gabbie P. smashed another through the hands of the 56er goalie, Emma T. made no mistake on a breakaway, finding the upper corner, and then to top off the day, Cierra P. scored the 7th and perhaps best goal of the day. The striker collected the ball about 30 yards out, turned quickly and saw that the keeper was off her line and chipped the ball beautifully over her head to the far corner. The 15s will see if they can continue their fireworks display as they return to action 1:30pm Sunday at the USA complex vs. Appleton.
FCGB U17 Girls Orange - De Pere (1-3)
On a windy day the ladies from the South side of Green Bay had the better of the play. They capitalized on their chances, and specifically in the first half were winning the 50/50 balls as well as 2nd and 3rd balls. With the wind in their back the FCGB ladies (in blue today) were unable to really test the De Pere goalkeeper. De Pere capitalized on a cross from the left wing, a nice finish on the backpost, with the FCGB defense still looking at the area where the cross came from. In the 2nd half a different picture, with a more aggressive home side. Unfortunately a cross/shot blew across Jasmine McK. on the backpost, just when FCGB started knocking on the door a bit. A shot going into the low corner from a De Pere midfielder and a last minute finish by Alicia, made for a 1-3 final score. This Sunday another meeting with De Pere, this time in De Pere.
FCGB U18 Girls Orange - BCU United (1-1)
Hosting BCU on a breezy Sunday morning, the 18s played the first 45 minutes with a strong wind at their backs, and didn't quite figure it out. BCU ran a flat trap as well which put added pressure on the team's fast-twitch brain fibres, and except for Ashley N. having a great look from a diagonal service, this shut down the FCGB offense. The second half was much better as the Orange started winning 50-50 tackles and creating chances. Kara D. continued her production of late, giving the hosts the lead immediately after getting yellow-carded unfairly. She then had a 1v1 breakaway, but the opposing keeper came up big, and the lead stayed at 1-0 until the final minute, when a wind-aided deflection floated to the far post and eluded the fingertips of FCGB goalie Jenna Phelps. Stephanie S. had one more desperation chance in injury time, but her sliding attempt trickled just wide. The 18s will conclude their State Premier season next Sunday at Kiwanis Park with a 3:15pm kickoff vs. Racine.
ASC Arsenal - FCGB U15GO (4-0)
Traveling south again to the USA complex, FCGB faced an Appleton side they had defeated just last week 5-1. Against the strong wind, the team mustered a great goal from Gabbie P., then withstood a few scary chances from the hosts, especially on corner kicks. With the aid of mother nature in the second half, it was much easier for the Orange side as they stepped up and put pressure on the Arsenal backs and midfielders. Despite one or two counter-attacks, the latter 40 minutes was played almost exclusively in the Appleton half and eventually chances fell. After Cierra P. struck the crossbar, Devon S. scored from a deflection for a 2-0 lead. The second time around Cierra found the net instead of the pipe, and then Reanne C. finished the scoring on a follow-up rebound for the 4-0 final result. The 15s had a near perfect weekend with 11 goals scored with none conceded in two away matches, taking over first place in the State League First Division. The next action is this Sunday on the road again at Polonia, kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
On a field without noticeable lines the boys from Green Bay dug themselves an early hole to climb out of. 1-0 for the Madison boys on some confusion and bad clearances in the FCGB back line. On a bouncy pitch the Orange guys had difficulty finding eachother, they did not help their cause by consistently avoiding to use the width of the field. Edgar B. finished from close in on the verge of half time (1-1). In the 2nd half the pressure continued to build on the goal of the Madison team, chances by Edgar, Will and Brett inside the box probably should have found the back of the net. It was not to be, two hand balls in the box and a clear fould on Marco inside the PK area also did not result in calls. Some promising runs on different occasions from the backs, Nate, Marshall and Zach deserved a better results, again, it was not to be. Sunday a game in Grafton, against the local Rangers!
