U17 Girls Orange take home the trophy!

FC Green Bay teams at Madison 56-ers Invite Tournament (9/6-9/7)
In the weekend of September 6-7, 2008, the U14 Boys Orange, U15 Girls Orange and the U17 Girls Orange teams competed in the Madison 56-ers Invitational Tournament held at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona.
The U17 Girls Orange ended up winning their age-bracket, The U15 Girls Orange lost to State Premier League team Grafton Rangers, which meant they did not advance despite winning their first two games, and the U14 Boys Orange after tying Elm Grove (State Premier League team) in their final game, also found out that this was not enough as Brookfield Red advanced based on total points (The boys did beat Brookfield Red 4-2 in group play).

U17 Girls Orange
The U17 Girls Orange team started their group play with a 4-0 win over Madison 56-ers white. Scores by Stephanie S., Generve C., and two own goals from FCGB corenerkicks sealed the deal in this early Saturday  game. The 2nd game of the day was against Brookfield Red (plays in State Premier League with FCGB) ended with a 0-0 tie, with FCGB having the upperhand for most of the game. On Sunday the ladies in their away navy blue jerseys, were firing on all cilinders, scores by Becca H. (2), Generve C. (2), Ahley N, and Stephanie S., with assists from Ashley N., Alicia S., Stephanie S., Jenee L. and Jessica B. lead to a 6-0 final score.
In the final, a rematch with Brookfield Red, Stepanie S. scored off a great cross by Ashley N., and Khadija N. gave herself a birthday present by finishing clinically after some great pressure in the Brookfield penalty box by Stephanie S. A tournament win after finishing runner-up at the FC Milwaukee Invite just three weeks ago.

U15 Girls Orange
The U15 Girls beat the PCYS Select team 2-1 in their first game on Saturday.  After falling behind 0-1, Devan S. equalized with a swerving left foot shot from the flank.  Emma T. notched the game-winner on a follow-up in the second half.  In the 2nd game with FC Madison Gold, FCGB ended with a 3-0 score and a strange red card (2nd yellow) for forward Reanne C., after she alledgedly tripped herself on a breakaway trying to score the 4th goal of the match.  The red card was later reversed by a brave decision from the tournament director and referee assessor.  In their 3rd game of the weekend the U15 Girls team ended up losing by a 5-0 score to Grafton Rangers, a State Premier League team.

U14 Boys Orange
After a dissapointing loss to FC Milwaukee White in their 1st match of the weekend (2-1 loss), score by center forward Will K., the U14 Boys Orange team rebounded in their 2nd game by scoring 3 goals in a 5-minute span to beat Brookfield Red 4-2. Edgar B. (2) and Michael L. (2) had the goals, with Marco D., Edgar B. and Michael L. with the assists. Marco D. was the man of the match with his tremendous work rate and a nifty through ball for the tying goal, he sparked the FCGB team to a somewaht unexpected comeback and eventual win.
On Sunday the boys in Orange ended up tying Elm Grove, a State Premier League team, 0-0. It turned out to be one point short of advancing to the finals. Brookfield Red shut out FC Milwaukee White 3-0, which meant they ended up in the final. Overall a solid performance for the weekend!

On a different note, former FC Green Bay player Keelan Schmidley, son of FCGB President Dawn King, competed in the Ironman competition in Madison this weekend, finishing in 11 hours and 8 minutes as the youngest male participant (19) in his first Ironman competition. Congrats to Keelan!
Also newsworthy is the welcoming to the world of Sally Davis, daughter of Logan and Emily Davis. Emily coaches for FC Green Bay and is also a player on our Orange Womens Premier League team. Congrats to Logan and Emily with the birth of their 1st child.
